Controversial midfielder Joey Barton has insisted he will stay with Marseille next season, despite the storm surrounding his latest contentious Twitter outburst against Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Thiago Silva.
PSG chiefs are calling for action to be taken against Barton after he launched a bizarre character assassination of their Brazilian defender, which could lead to Barton being banned when he faces a French Football Federation ethical committee on April 15th.
Many observers believed Barton's latest indiscretion would bring an end to his career in French football, but the former Newcastle midfielder has claimed a deal is in place for him to join Marseille when his loan deal from QPR expires at the end of this season.
"Some strange people think that I’ll be playing in the Championship next season," he said on Twitter. "Good one! QPR might, I won’t!
"It’s not up to QPR if I stay. There is an agreement already in place for me to stay here (at Marseille). Can’t see QPR wanting me on the wage bill in the Championship.
"I wish QPR all the best 4 the future, I’m loving life in France. Loving Marseille. They love me. All I want to do is gave everything for this football club. They backed me when nobody else did, for that I will be eternally grateful. This club is now in my blood, it’s impossible to get it out.
"I really hope they (QPR) stay up. I have all season. Stay up/go down. Harry (Redknapp) stays/goes. I don’t want to be part of it. Marseille is my home now."
