Bastos, 29, joined the Bundesliga club on an 18-month loan deal in January as Lyon offloaded some of their bigger earners in order to cut costs.

The unusual length of the loan spell for the Brazil international was seen as an indication that the deal would eventually be made permanent - but he would like to see the situation resolved sooner rather than later.

"The ideal thing would be for Schalke to buy me," Bastos, whose buy-out clause is fixed at €4.5 million, explained.

"I like to work in the long term at my clubs. My family are soon going to join me in Dusseldorf, where I have found a house."

The versatile former Lille man has scored three goals in eight Bundesliga appearances, but Schalke general manager Horst Heldt said they were more likely to use a clause in the deal to extend his loan for another season.
