Blackburn have announced that goalkeeper Paul Robinson will be unavailable for the next six months as a result of a blood clot in his lung.

Robinson, 33, suffered complications when he underwent surgery on his back last week.

A club statement read: "The former England international developed a pulmonary embolism (blood clot in the lung), which will rule him out for the next six months. Robbo has now returned home after being held in hospital over the weekend."

Rovers also announced that fellow goalkeeper Jake Kean will be out for the rest of the season after he tore his cartilage in the 3-0 defeat to Cardiff on Monday.

The club added: "The 22-year-old is expected to be out of action for up to six weeks, but should make a full recovery in time for the start of next season."

Grzegorz Sandomierski, on loan from Racing Genk, replaced Kean in that game and the 23-year-old Poland international is set to feature in goal for the remaining seven games of the season.

Blackburn are currently 19th in the Championship but level on points with Huddersfield in the final relegation spot.
