Aston Villa midfielder Jean Makoun will make his move to French side Rennes permanent at the end of the season.
The Premier League strugglers confirmed the 29-year-old would be staying with the Ligue 1 club after they took up an option to make his loan deal permanent.
Makoun was brought to Villa Park by Gerard Houllier in 2011 before the former France manager was forced to quit after suffering health problems.
In total he made seven league appearances for the club after signing from Lyon for a fee of £6 million.
He spent last season on loan in Greece with Olympiakos before Paul Lambert made it clear he was not in his plans. A loan move to Rennes followed.
A statement on Villa's official website read: "French Ligue 1 club Rennes will exercise their option to complete a permanent move for Jean Makoun in the summer transfer window.
"The deal for an undisclosed fee with go through on July 1."
