Millwall are weighing up the possibility of making the signing of Southampton loanee Richard Chaplow permanent, according to Lions chief executive Andy Ambler.

Chaplow, 28, signed for the Championship club until the end of the season last week and made his debut in the 2-0 win at Charlton on Saturday.

The midfielder is out of contract with the Saints in the summer and would be available on a free transfer.

And Ambler says manager Kenny Jackett could sanction a deal, providing Chaplow impresses during the final games of the current campaign.

"He's one for the future in the sense that, on the whole, Kenny likes to sign players on loan he thinks he has a chance of getting - especially those of a certain age,” Ambler told NewsAtDen.

"It's a different situation to someone like Harry Kane or maybe even Chris Wood. When Kenny signs a player like Chaplow he's thinking there might be a contract up for grabs if they show something.

"I'm sure that's what he's thinking this time. But primarily we've signed him until May 11 because he can play in the FA Cup semi-final against Wigan."
