Schalke general manager Horst Heldt believes that Champions League qualification will be essential in keeping Julian Draxler at the club.
Draxler, 19, played a key role for Schalke as they progressed to the Champions League last-16 before succumbing to Galatasaray. And his form has attracted the interest of Chelsea, Manchester United, AC Milan and Inter Milan according to reports in Germany.
But with another three years on his current contract the Bundesliga side are not keen to let him leave easily.
"Julian Draxler is under contract at our club and he is an important player," Heldt told Bild.
"We want to keep him at our club for as long as possible. It's our obligation to ensure he feels fine being with us.
"From our point of view, it would be helpful to win a berth in the UEFA Champions League for next season. This would be a boost!"
