Highlights: Eintracht Frankfurt 1-2 VfB Stuttgart
Eintracht Frankfurt missed the chance to steal a march on Schalke in the race for a Champions League spot after slumping to a 2-1 defeat at home to Stuttgart.
With Schalke losing 3-0 at Nuremberg on Saturday, Frankfurt could have moved three points clear of their rivals in the battle for fourth place if they had beaten Stuttgart.
But the poor recent form which had seen Frankfurt earn just three points from their previous five matches struck again as they suffered a ninth defeat of the campaign.
Stefan Aigner gave Frankfurt the lead after 17 minutes - their first goal in six weeks - but Vedad Ibisevic equalised from the spot in the 48th minute and Georg Niedermeier gave Stuttgart the victory with his strike 19 minutes from time.
Luuk de Jong's first-half goal was enough to see Borussia Monchengladbach to a 1-0 victory against 10-man Hannover.
De Jong hit the only goal of the match in the 36th minute while Hannover's night was further soured when Sergio Pinto was sent off for a second booking in the 85th minute.
The win sees the hosts extend their unbeaten run to four games to move onto 38 points, one place away from a Europa League berth.
