Tottenham midfielder Mousa Dembele admits he was "embarrassed" by his side's display in their 4-1 Europa League defeat against Inter Milan on Thursday night and has urged them to bounce back in style against Fulham on Sunday.
Andre Villas-Boas's men scraped into the quarter-finals of the Europa League with an away goals win against Inter, but their surrender of a 3-0 first leg advantage fuelled fears that Spurs may be about to indulge in another end of season collapse.
Victories for Arsenal and Everton pn Saturday piled the pressure on a creaking Spurs in the race for a top four finish, with Dembele suggesting they can have no excuses when his former club Fulham come to White Hart Lane.
"It was a bit embarrassing (at Inter)," admitted Dembele, in quotes appearing in several Sunday newspapers. "We thought it was going to be easier than this. We knew they were going to fight but it's a shame that we let them in to the game.
"The thing is that if you go to a place with a 3-0 lead you take different mentality. That was wrong. We had to work much harder but we are through and we have to take lessons from the game in to Sunday. Now we have to be fully concentrated and go for the win against Fulham."
Dembele is relishing a reunion with Fulham, as he offers up some glowing words for the club he left to seal a move to Tottenham last summer.
"It was a very good time and I enjoyed it a lot," he added. "They gave me a lot of confidence. They were behind me all the time so I had a very good experience there and I have a very good feeling about the club. They have good players and against big teams they always play well. They have some good players."
