West Ham United are interested in signing Borussia Dortmund striker Daniel Ginczek, according to reports in Germany.

The 21-year-old forward has impressed during his current loan spell at Bundesliga II side St. Pauli this season, scoring 12 goals in 24 appearances for the Hamburg-based side.

Hamburger Morgenpost reports that the Hammers sent a scout to Germany to watch the tall centre-forward in the 3-2 win over Jahn Regensburg at the weekend. The paper quotes the scout giving his verdict on the player as: “This young man is terrific.”

Ginczek is contracted to Bundesliga champions Dortmund until 2014, although he is yet to make an appearance for the club since being promoted to their first-team squad in 2010.

In a recent kicker interview the Germany Under-21 international had said that St. Pauli needed to avoid the drop into Bundesliga III first and then “all parties will have a sit down and talk about what’s best for me”. The same publication states that Dortmund told the player he was free to leave Dortmund at the end of the season.
