Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has confirmed midfielder Joe Allen is likely to require surgery on his shoulder after copping a knock in Sunday's 3-2 win over Tottenham.

Allen, 22, replaced Philippe Coutinho in the 59th minute of Liverpool's win but aggravated an injury he suffered more than five months ago.

"We made a change... with Joe Allen having been struggling since October with his shoulder and he'll probably need an operation," Rodgers told Sky Sports.

Allen is expected to miss Wales' internationals against Scotland and Croatia this month.
