Schalke terminate Edu contract
Schalke have terminated the contract of Brazilian attacker Edu, who is moving to Chinese Super League club Liaoning Whowin.
Felix Magath brought the 31-year-old to Schalke in January 2010. He made a total of 43 Bundesliga games for the club, scoring a brace in the shock 5-2 defeat of Inter Milan in the 2010-11 Champions League.
But Edu quickly fell out of favour at Schalke and spent the 2011-12 season on loan at Turkish club Besiktas.
He followed that with a loan spell at Bundesliga strugglers Greuther Furth, scoring once in ten games and, since returning to the Royal Blues during the January transfer window, has made one brief appearance during a 4-0 defeat at Bayern Munich
“Edu approached us and said he wanted a footballing change,” Schalke general manager Horst Heldt said.
“We would like to thank him for his efforts on behalf of the club and wish him all the best for the future, both professionally and personally.”
