Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone believes he will return to Inter Milan as coach one day, saying it could be his destiny to take charge of his former club.

Simeone, 42, played for Inter between 1997 and 1999 and was part of a team that came close to capturing the Serie A title but lost out to Juventus on the final day of the 1997-98 season.

He has repeatedly been linked with the Inter manager's job in recent seasons, with five different coaches having been appointed since Jose Mourinho left in May 2010.

"Sooner or later, one day, I will be the coach of Inter," he told Sky Italia. "I left many positive memories as a player at Sevilla, Lazio and Inter.

"This makes me believe that some day I could also be coach of these teams. After all, it happened with Atletico Madrid. I did well here as a player, and now I must do well as a coach.

"We'll see what destiny has to say, but will we meet again in Milan? Yes, certainly yes."

Simeone has already worked in Serie A, spending six months in charge of Catania two years ago.
