David Villa has left hospital after surgery to remove a kidney stone was completed successfully, but he remains a doubt for his side's Primera Division game at Granada on Saturday and next week's Champions League trip to Milan.

Villa was hospitalised on Monday after reporting strong pains in his stomach and quickly underwent a procedure to sort out the problem.

The Catalan club released a statement on Tuesday evening, which read: "David Villa was admitted to hospital on Monday due to a nephritic colic infection. The player underwent treatment to eliminate the kidney stone and he was released from hospital this Tuesday."

The statement added that Villa was set to take part in training on Wednesday, but ultimately he missed the session.

Villa, 31, completed just his second full 90 minutes for Barca in La Liga this season when scoring in the 6-1 rout of Getafe last Sunday lunchtime. He is now a serious doubt for Saturday evening's away game against Granada, who are stuck in the relegation battle but did beat Real Madrid 1-0 two weeks ago. Barca then face Milan in their Champions League last-16 first leg at the San Siro next Wednesday.

Spain's record all-time goalscorer, Villa was linked with a move away from the Nou Camp in January as he has been unable to regain a regular place in the Blaugrana starting XI since returning from nine months out with a broken leg at the start of the current season.
