Italy coach Cesare Prandelli has urged fans to be patient with his new-look team after watching them snatch a 1-1 friendly draw against Netherlands in Amsterdam.

The match, in which Marco Verratti equalised in the last minute, was the Azzurri's sixth friendly without a win and Prandelli, 55, told the ANSA news agency that supporters faced a wait to see the best of them.

"The renewal of this team is slow," he said. "But we will do great things. We must renew this squad, and we are certainly on the right track. We have great potential, and that's exciting."

The Italy line-up at the Amsterdam ArenA contained a number of young players, and Prandelli said he believed his stars were at the right clubs to enable them to develop.

"I will be relying heavily on Massimiliano Allegri as he works with Mario Balotelli and Stephan El Shaarawy [at AC Milan]," he explained.

"Verratti, meanwhile, has the good fortune to work with Carlo Ancelotti [at PSG], who is one of the best coaches in the world. With him, Marco can become a great player."
