Schalke have clinched the signing of Brazil international Michel Bastos on an 18-month loan deal from Lyon.

Bastos, 29, has been a consistent part of the Lyon squad this season, but has failed to secure a regular starting role.

The left-sided player has scored five league goals despite starting just seven games, but a move to Schalke had been in the offing and Lyon confirmed the deal on deadline day.

In a statement on their website, the French club said: "The talented left-footed Brazilian Michel Bastos will be on loan to Schalke for 18 months."

Schalke will have the option to buy Bastos from Lyon at the end of the loan deal.
