Newly-promoted Frankfurt hope the arrival of the 29-year-old, who has scored 16 goals in 68 Bundesliga games, will boost their striking options.

Lakic has failed to win a regular starting place at Wolfsburg since joining from Kaiserslautern in 2011, and has also spent a spell on loan at Hoffenheim.

"We are happy to have finally sealed this deal," Frankfurt sports director Bruno Huebner said.

"We have brought in a player who is very good with headers and fits perfectly with the playing style of our club and the demands of coach Armin Veh."

Frankfurt are fourth in the Bundesliga, having amassed 33 points.
