Heynckes questions Guardiola timing

Bayern Munich manager Jupp Heynckes has hit out at the club's decision to appoint Pep Guardiola as his successor at an important part in the Bundesliga season.

Former Barca boss Guardiola was announced as Bayern's new coach last week, with the club confirming he will take over the reigns next season.

But Heynckes believes the announcement has provided an unnecessary distraction at the Allianz Arena and has disrupted his side's start to the year.

"It would have been better to do this in the winter break," Heynckes told Sky. "Before Christmas, before the holidays. This is due to the media hype that might interfere with the normal working day."

Following Bayern's 2-0 win over Greuther Furth on Saturday, Heynckes was forced to respond to claims that he doesn't have enough control over his side.

"I am the boss," he said. "Anyone who knows me knows I am the boss here. I have been the boss everywhere, no matter where I have worked."

Bayern legend Franz Beckenbauer understands Heynckes' frustration but believes Guardiola was always going to make big news no matter when it was announced.

"If somebody is as high calibre as Pep Guardiola, you should not be surprised if it is the big issue," he told Bild. "Now, it has to be Jupp. But he doesn't seem happy."

First Mancini gone, now Tony Pulis. Premier League's managerial style quotient takes continued beating. Both men stylish in their own way...
