Dortmund have signed midfielder Sahin on loan from Real Madrid, bringing him back to the club where he was a Bundesliga title-winner in 2011.

He made his first appearance for them since April 2011 in the 5-0 win away to Werder Bremen, coming on as a substitute for the final six minutes to replace captain Sebastian Kehl.

The Dortmund supporters welcomed Sahin back with chants of: "Dortmund lads, Dortmund lads, we are all Dortmund lads," and he said: "The chants, the welcome, it's not to be taken for granted. It gave me the shivers."

Sahin was the heartbeat of the Dortmund team in their 2011 title-winning campaign, but his career has stalled since moving to Real Madrid and he recently spent an unsuccessful spell on loan at Liverpool.

On Saturday, a smiling Sahin sat on the bench for most of Dortmund's thrashing of Bremen - though boss Jurgen Klopp had reacted angrily when a reporter asked him why the midfielder would not be starting the game.

Klopp said: "How can you be so stupid as to ask about it? We have a great team. Why should Nuri Sahin oust Ilkay Gundogan, Sven Bender, Sebastian Kehl or someone else after one week of training with the team?

"We want his qualities, and we will get them. He is in great form, but we won't question things that haven't been bad at all before after only one week."

Earlier, Klopp had said Sahin could be considered as a potential starter at the end of February.

Dortmund, who will meet second-placed Bayer Leverkusen in a fortnight, have signed Sahin for 18 months and reportedly have an option to buy him for €7 million. "He is relaxed, and so am I", Klopp told kicker on Sunday.
