Carlo Ancelotti has said Nicolas Anelka was not going to return to Paris Saint-Germain and also ruled out the club making any immediate move for Cristiano Ronaldo.

Anelka, 33 - who was managed by Ancelotti at Chelsea - had been training with PSG before the start of the Chinese league season.

That sparked speculation that the Shanghai Shenhua striker, reportedly unhappy in the Far East and keen to return to Europe, could be poised for a third spell at PSG, his first club.

But Ancelotti told RMC Radio: "I've never said he would stay at PSG.

“Nicolas has a contract with a Chinese club. He called me to ask to take part in some training sessions with the team.

“I have a good relationship with him. He came for a week. When the Chinese league starts again, he'll go back to his club.

"It's not possible to keep him. Anelka has already decided his future."

Anelka had turned down the chance to rejoin PSG before opting to make the lucrative switch to China, and Ancelotti said: "I can say he's a fantastic player, one of the best I had [at Chelsea]. He's a very professional player, very self-disciplined. I love Anelka, as a person and a player, but it's not possible [that he stays at PSG]."

However, speculation that Real Madrid’s Ronaldo could be on his way to the French capital continues.

PSG sporting director Leonardo fanned the flames when he said the huge means of the club's Qatari owners have made the French capital an attractive destination for the world's top players.

He claimed the club was one of "four or five" that could interest the Portugual star should he leave Real, but Ancelotti remained guarded about that possibility.

"He's a fantastic player, but I'm not thinking about him today,” he said. “We're playing for the league and the Champions League.

“The next six months are very important for the team. We have to win the league title. Perhaps we can win against Valencia in the last 16 of the Champions League."
