Sunderland 'make offer for Danny Graham'
Sunderland have submitted a bid for striker Danny Graham as speculation over the Swansea player’s future continues to mount, reports say.
Graham, 27, began his career at Sunderland’s local rivals Middlesbrough and joined the Swans from Watford for £3.5million in 2011.
He was a mainstay of Brendan Rodgers’ Swans side last season, making 36 appearances and scoring 12 goals as they finished 11th in the Premier League, but has struggled to win starts following the arrival of Michu at the Liberty Stadium in the summer.
Despite reports that Graham is keen to return to the North-East - and is also interesting Newcastle - he has said he will stay in Wales if manager Michael Laudrup asks him to.
"The gaffer says he wants to sit down with the players who haven't been playing as much,” he said. “If the gaffer wants me to stay, I'll stay.
“It's been very frustrating. I want to play football - I don't want to sit on the bench. I don't want to sit around and pick up money, I want to play and contribute to the team."
Forward Ji Dong-won has already left Sunderland on loan, and 34-year-old striker Louis Saha is also free to depart, with manager Martin O’Neill keen to acquire replacements.
“We are still a bit short in terms of numbers,” he said. “Louis may stay with us until the end of the month until such time as hopefully we have strengthened the squad a little more.”
