Sydney FC have signed Tiago Calvano to boost their injury-hit defence for the rest of the A-League season after he was released by the Newcastle Jets.
The 31-year-old Brazilian was training with his new club on Thursday and can expect to be thrown straight into action against Wellington Phoenix at Allianz Stadium on Saturday.
Sydney FC's defence has been a problem all season and it took a further hit this week when seasoned Dutch central defender Pascal Bosschaart was ruled out for the rest of the season.
Also on the injured list are defenders Adam Griffiths and Nathan Sherlock.
"It's good to have Tiago on board," said Sydney FC coach Frank Farina.
"We have had a few injuries at the back and we were getting a little thin so having him here gives us more options and depth in defence."
Calvano, who played 28 games for the Newcastle Jets since coming to Australia, said he was looking forward to the challenge and the opportunity presented to him.
"I'm very happy to be here at Sydney FC," Tiago said. "I look forward to start playing and helping my new club and teammates.
"I think this is a great opportunity for my career. Sydney FC is a good club and Sydney is a beautiful city.
"I hope I can prove to the club what I can do."
