Wigan Athletic manager Roberto Martinez may be forced to look for defensive reinforcements in the transfer market because of Ivan Ramis’ knee injury.

Wigan are waiting to hear how long they will be without Ramis, who was stretchered off in Saturday’s 1-1 draw against Fulham, but Martinez said he is fearing the Spanish centre-back has suffered ligament damage, which could rule him out for the season.

Martinez has already signed Honduran midfielder Roger Espinoza and borrowed Manchester United’s Chilean striker Angelo Henriquez in the January transfer window.

He planned to make one further addition, but he could be forced to make a second signing if Ramis is a long-term absentee.

Martinez told BBC Radio Manchester: "We've brought two new faces in and we're trying to get one more, but the results of the scan on Ivan Ramis' knee may change things.”

Meanwhile, Henriquez could be in line for his first Wigan start in Tuesday’s FA Cup replay against Bournemouth, when Martinez is expected to make wholesale changes.
