McInnes sacked by Bristol City

January 12, 2013

Bristol City have sacked manager Derek McInnes after their 4-0 home defeat to Leicester saw them plummet to the foot of the Championship.

A statement on the club's official website confirmed McInnes had been relieved of his duties after a run of just one win in five games. City lost seven in a row earlier in the season.

Jon Lansdown, City's Football MD, said: "This is a decision we felt we had to make for the good of the football club. Derek has been a pleasure to work with; he's disappointed but he understands the decision.

"We want to give ourselves the best possible chance of getting out of the situation we are currently in and we've got 20 games to do that."

The club confirmed Tony Docherty has been asked to take training on Monday.
