Former France international Alain Giresse has been appointed as the new Senegal coach on a two-year contract.
Giresse, 60, will replace Joseph Koto who was fired in October upon the country's failure to qualify for the African Nations Cup and has been tasked with qualification for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
"Alain Giresse has been chosen to be the national squad coach," Senegal's soccer federation president Augustin Senghor told local RFM radio.
Giresse has previously coached Gabon and Mali, who he took to third place at the African Nations Cup in 2012 but resigned in May over contract terms. He has also played for France at the 1982 and 1986 World Cups.
The majority of Senegal's squad ply their trade in Europe including Demba Ba of Chelsea, Mohamed Diame of West Ham and Newcastle striker Papiss Cisse.
