Sporting sack their manager

Sporting Lisbon have parted company with their Belgian manager Franky Vercauteren following a poor run of form.

Vercauteren was appointed as Sporting coach in November but won just two matches during his two months in charge of the side.

The Portuguese club outlined in a statement that squad manager Jesualdo Ferreira will take the reins in Vercauteren's absence.

Sporting are currently 12th in the Portuguese Liga and have been knocked out of the Europa League.
