John Terry is finally on the verge of a comeback for Chelsea, Rafa Benitez has stated, and will take part in a behind-closed-doors under-21 game on Thursday.

The Stamford Bridge captain has been absent since hyperextending his knee in the 1-1 draw with Liverpool on November 11, and has suffered a lot of frustration in that time, with Benitez even admitting at various points that the club could not be fully sure when he would return.

That seems to have changed now, with the manager, talking more confidently of a Terry return.

"John Terry has been training and we are considering playing him some minutes on Thursday with the under-21 team," the Chelsea interim manager said. "The good thing is he's training. We will see how he feels on Thursday and, hopefully, he can play more minutes in a short time.

"We will see, but at least it's a positive thing. Before, he was just doing the warm-up, so we're obviously closer. It depends on his reaction.

"Thursday will be a different kind of game, but we will see how he feels. He will train the day after and, at least then, we can start considering him an option."
