Melbourne Victory playmaker Gui Finkler will undergo knee surgery after suffering a blow in his side's 2-1 loss to the Western Sydney Wanderers on Tuesday.
Finkler, 27 , has impressed since joining the Victory this term, leading the competition in assists in its early stages.
However, it is now unlikely the Brazilian will play any further part in the Victory's campaign. The club confirmed via Twitter that Finkler will require a full knee reconstruction on Wednesday afternoon.
The attacking midfielder later took to the social networking site himself to express his disappointment at the setback.
"Today is the worst day in my life. But I will be here supporting MVFC...and I will be back as soon as possible," Finkler said.
The Victory slipped into fourth position following their New Year's Day defeat, but will have the opportunity to return to the A-League's top three when they take on Wellington Phoenix this Saturday.
