The defender, 31, was handed a six month ban on Tuesday after he and team-mate Gianluca Grava were accused of failing to report ex-Napoli goalkeeper Matteo Gianello approaching them in an attempt to fix a game with Sampdoria in 2010.

His agent Enrico Fedele was speaking to local station Radio Marte and discussed how the sentence - which also included a fine and a two-point penalty for the club itself - has impacted on all concerned.

He said: "There is indignation, as the sentence was made official today but had been written for days. The rules have to be modified and Gianello is unreliable as we proved when he kept changing his story.

"I hope and am convinced that the TNAS appeals court will bring the truth to light. After all, it has already overturned other sentences in this scandal. The Federal Court will give Napoli back a point, but we hope the club can get away with a fine and the players are cleared.

"Cannavaro is moved by the affection of the people. He is clean and he knows it, he'll return stronger than ever."
