A police source revealed on Wednesday morning that eight of those taken in had been kept in custody after being identified on CCTV footage following the game at Stade Marcel Picot.

The 3-1 defeat left Nancy rooted to the foot of Ligue 1 and led to supporters, presented as ultras, invading the dressing room and rioting.

Nancy goalkeeper Guy Roland Ndy Assembe was also caught up in the melee and punched in the face but has not taken any action.

"Several stewards were beaten, some have received punches. We have identified suspects through video," said the commissioner of the departmental security, Denis Kotnik.

The arrests of the suspects, aged 19 to 40 years, took place without difficulty," added the police commissioner.

Nancy remain bottom of Ligue 1 with six points from 13 games.
