Pele, 72, went under the knife at the city's Albert Einstein Hospital, though no extra details were disclosed at the behest of the former striker's family.
"Everything went well, it was a very simple operation. He will probably leave tomorrow [Wednesday]," his spokesman Jose Fornos told Agence France-Presse.
Pele is widely considered one of the greatest players of all time having scored around 1,300 goals and won three World Cups (1958, 1962 and 1970) during a glittering career.
Boasting myriad football records, Pele saw one of them fall last weekend as Lionel Messi surpassed his total of 75 goals in a calendar year.
