Report: Pele hip operation a success

Soccer legend Pele has undergone a successful hip operation in Sao Paulo.

"Everything went well, it was a very simple operation. He will probably leave tomorrow (Wednesday)," his spokesman, Jose Fornos, told Agence France-Presse.

On Tuesday, Albert Einstein hospital confirmed via press release that Pele underwent "total hip arthroplasty surgery on of the right hip" on Nov. 10 and is still in the hospital under observation, following medical advice and physical therapy.

A spokesperson for Albert Einstein hospital in Sao Paolo confirmed he was hospitalized Tuesday, but added that no further details were offered by request of the family.

The Folha de Sao Paolo newspaper, citing his agent, confirmed that the soccer legend had undergone an operation on his hip to correct a problem with his femur and was recovering.

Pele, who won three World Cup titles with Brazil and scored nearly 1,300 career goals, turned 72 in October.
