FC Twente defender Douglas has expressed a desire to play in the Premier League or Bundesliga after revealing that Newcastle United, Schalke and Borussia Dortmund all attempted to sign him during the summer.

Douglas, 24, was heavily linked with a move away from Twente in the summer, with Newcastle thought to have been close to tying up a deal, and he has indicated that he is now open to a move.
"At this stage I'm not talking to anyone," he told Globo Esporte. "I have another year remaining on my contract, but I think I'm ready to take a step forwards."
Douglas, whom manager Steve McClaren has described as the best defender in the country, insisted he is happy at Twente but said he would welcome a move to England or Germany.
"Given my playing style, a transfer to one of those two countries would suit me best," he said. "Several clubs have taken an interest. In the last transfer window, there was interest from Newcastle United, Schalke, Borussia Dortmund and a club in Russia."
Twente currently sit top of the Eredivisie, one point clear of second-placed PSV Eindhoven after a 3-0 victory over Feyenoord on Sunday.
