The Russian champions confirmed the news on their official website, saying the Brazil international, 26, is expected to miss up to two weeks with a thigh injury.

His absence is a blow to Zenit's chances of qualifying from Group C. They currently lie third, with three points, two points above Anderlecht, who they beat 1-0 last month in St Petersburg.

He has scored three goals in 11 appearances since signing for a Russian Premier League record of 60m this summer.

Hulk, who was injured in Friday's 2-1 league victory against Rostov, will also miss Brazil's friendly against Colombia in the United States on November 14.
