Andre-Pierre Gignac and Joey Barton will not be part of the Marseille squad to face Paris Saint-Germain in the Coupe de la Ligue round of 16 tie at the Parc des Princes on Wednesday night.

Gignac, who has five Ligue 1 goals to his name - including two against PSG - from nine appearances this season, has been out of action since being forced off early in the 1-0 defeat at Troyes ten days ago and will not be risked. Barton, meanwhile, has been given permission to return home to England to deal with a family matter.

Loic Remy will make his first start of a troubled season that has seen him fail to find the back of the net, but coach Elie Baup is confident he can turn things around.

"I have no doubts about his potential. He is a part of the OM project, I always tell him. It was normal he was on the bench at the start of the season and he always understood why," Baup told a press conference.

"Gignac had a good pre-season, so it was logical to put him in the No. 9 position while Loïc Remy was injured not once [in May] but twice [during a friendly against Benfica in July]. Gignac won't play this week but Loic is a highly talented player - we are confident in him."

Barton flew back to England on Monday to be by his grandfather's bedside as he is gravely ill. He will return to France ahead of the Europa League game against Borussia Monchengladbach next week.

For PSG, Salvatore Sirigu, Marco Verratti, Sylvain Armand, Ezequiel Lavezzi, Alex, Thiago Motta and Nene are all out, while Zlatan Ibrahimovic could start on the bench.
