Switzerland head coach Ottmar Hitzfeld has been charged with misconduct by FIFA's disciplinary committee after appearing to make an offensive gesture to the referee during Friday's World Cup qualifying draw with Norway.

Hitzfeld, a former Bayern Munich coach, was pictured raising his middle finger, seeming to aim the gesture in the direction of Spanish official David Fernandez Borbalan.

FIFA announced that it had begun disciplinary proceedings over the incident, and had given Hitzfeld ten days to respond.
