SAO PAULO -- Barcelona right back Daniel Alves and FC Porto left back Alex Sandro have been released from Brazil's squad for friendlies against Iraq and Japan because of injury.

Brazil will play Iraq in Sweden on Thursday and take on Japan in Poland on Oct. 16.

Daniel Alves will be sidelined for three weeks after pulling his left thigh during his team's 2-2 draw against Real Madrid on Sunday. Alex Sandro incurred a similar injury on his left leg in Porto's match against Sporting Lisbon.

The Brazilian football federation said Monday that coach Mano Menezes will not call up replacements.

Brazil is not playing any World Cup qualifiers because it will host the tournament in 2014.
