Roberto Martinez has praised his summer signing Arouna Kone and said the Ivorian's power makes him perfect for the Premier League.

The 28-year-old striker scored his third goal for Wigan since his £4 million arrival in Saturday's 2-2 draw with Everton. And manager Martinez believes Kone, who scored 15 times in La Liga for Levante last season, is the finished article and a player who will not require time to adapt to the English game.

"He's at the perfect age," said the Spaniard. "He's not a young man who's still growing, he's at the best age of his career. He's been in Holland, Germany and Spain, and plays for the Ivory Coast, so he's got tremendous experience.

"Physically he's in great condition. He had a good pre-season and was coming off a good season with Levante. You can see the confidence he's got.

"As you can see he's very powerful, and he's someone who uses his power with style. He's a stylish footballer who looks after the ball really well, he's good in one-on-one situation and is a very clinical finisher.

"He's perfect for the British game and at his age is someone who's ready for this sort of challenge."

Kone also set up Franco Di Santo's strike in Saturday's draw and Martinez was pleased with the way his three most attack-minded players combined, with Shaun Maloney exerting an influence from a role behind the two strikers.

He added: "I thought Shaun Maloney was really good between the lines, Franco Di Santo came in from the left-hand side really well, and Arouna used his pace in the other channel.

"It's not just the three goals, it's the way he's making chances for others, and the amount of chances he's had in the last four games shows his intelligent movement and what a good player he is."
