France coach Didier Deschamps has responded to claims by Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger that Abou Diaby shouldn't have been selected for the national team last month.

Diaby picked up another thigh injury in the Premier League loss to Chelsea last Saturday, which Wenger claims was aggravated during France's matches against Finland and Belarus.

"I think it was a mistake to play him with the national team," Wenger said.

"I said many times that if France wanted Diaby in Spain they should not take him for Finland and Belarus."

Deschamps hit back by insisting he has control over what players are selected for France.

"I want to remind him [Wenger] that I am the only one to decide who will be picked and how long those who are picked will play," Deschamps said.

"There is only one to decide and it's me."

Diaby will miss three weeks of action as he recovers, ruling him out of a friendly against Japan on October 12 and a World Cup qualifier against Spain on October 16.
