Rayo Vallecano's La Liga clash with city rivals Real Madrid was called off on Sunday night after vandals sabotaged the floodlights at Rayo's Estadio de Vallecas.

The game was due to kick-off at 2030 BST but after the floodlights failed to function a deadline of 2200 BST was set to get them working again.

That deadline came and went and so the match was postponed, with Rayo president Raul Martin Presa claiming that electrical wires were cut in an act of sabotage.

"Vandals have cut the wire... The police are investigating the incident,'' Presa told AS.

The match has been rescheduled for Monday evening, with a 1900 BST kick-off time agreed.

Reigning Primera Division champions Real Madrid have endured a difficult start to their new league campaign and currently lie 14th in the table having earned four points from their first four games.

Rayo Vallecano, meanwhile, are seventh in La Liga, while Barcelona top the table with five wins from five games.
