Brazil legend Ronaldo is continuing his battle with his weight, but will do so publically as he has signed up for a reality television show to help him shed the pounds ahead of an upcoming charity match.

Ronaldo, 36, had well documented weight issues throughout his career and now that he has retired from the game he is struggling even more with thyroid problems.

The former striker, however, has targeted an annual charity match against a side including former Real Madrid teammate Zinedine Zidane coming up in December as his goal and is using a three-month spell on popular variety show ''Fantastico'' to help him.

"I have problems with the weighing scales. It's a real trauma. I have already tackled many challenges and this will not be easy," he told Globo. "Those who have tried to lose weight know that. But I am getting on with it with high spirits. I have a game against Zidane's friends in Porto Alegre in December and I want to be ready for it. That's the big challenge."

Since hanging up his boots, Ronaldo has taken on a role with the local organising committee for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil and has also done commercials, some of which poke fun at his dramatic weight gain.
