Wigan are hopeful that Jean Beausejour will be able to return to action soon after suffering a hamstring injury, causing him to miss international duty for Chile.

Beausejour, 28, was taken off in the first half of Wigan's 2-2 draw with Stoke and missed Chile's World Cup qualifier against Colombia as a result.

The former Birmingham player is set to sit out Saturday's trip to Manchester United but manager Roberto Martinez is confident he will be back soon.

"The scan he had after the Stoke game revealed that he had a tear in his hamstring so now he's in a stage of recovery and we're assessing how long that will take," Martinez told the club's official website."It's too early to predict when he'll be able to return to action, but he's progressing well and hopefully it won't be too long."

However, Paraguayan defender Antolin Alcaraz is available again after suspension which should allow Maynor Figueroa to move to left wing-back and replace Beausejour.

In addition, Martinez believes midfielder James McArthur should be fit after the international break gave the Scotland international a rest.

"James has been through a very demanding start to the season, because after an hour or so on the pitch his back begins to stiffen up and against Chelsea and Stoke he tired towards the end of the game when the tempo was high," Martinez added.
