Gianluigi Buffon has told La Stampa that one of his international team-mates "talked a bit too much", following television footage of the Italy side rowing.

During the match with Bulgaria on Friday, a number of heated discussions were picked up by cameras and microphones, focusing on the out-of-form Napoli right-back Christian Maggio. Buffon said the team had found Friday's 2-2 draw in Sofia tough, and that the players need to adjust their behaviour.

"We always struggle a little in the first few qualifiers, and then when you are tired it can happen that you lose sharpness and become more tense," Buffon said. "This is why someone talked a bit too much on the field."

Coach Cesare Prandelli, who is expected to switch to a 4-3-1-2 formation for their next World Cup qualifier against Malta on Tuesday, was also unhappy with the players' behaviour.

"It's not a good sign when players are arguing on the pitch," he told Sky Italia. "It shows you have lost your calm, your serenity, and the quality of your game also suffers."
