Ziegler, who had been surplus to requirements at Juventus, has moved to Russia for the season with the option to make the deal permanent in the summer.

The 26-year-old former Tottenham left-back first moved to Italy in 2007 when he joined Sampdoria, and he made the switch to Juventus a year ago. However, he has never figured in Antonio Conte's plans and was almost immediately sent on loan to Fenerbahce last August.

The head of Lokomotiv's selection department Kirill Kotov told his club's official website: "We have been looking for a player to enhance our defence.

"Reto Ziegler is a left-footed player that meets our demands. It is also important that he can play both in defence and midfield. This will boost competition within the team."
