Podolski loving London life
New Arsenal signing Lukas Podolski says he has enjoyed his first few weeks of London life and playing in the Premier League.
Podolski, 27, who scored his first goal for the Gunners against Liverpool on Sunday, is currently with the Germany squad ahead of their upcoming World Cup qualifiers with Faroe Islands and Austria.
Speaking to DFB TV on Monday, Podolski said: "It is a great city and a great club. We've got five points from three matches and I think that is positive."
The former Cologne player believes the German club's anthem is better than You Never Walk Alone.
"My team-mates have been telling me about the special atmosphere at Liverpool, with the singing before you get onto the pitch. But I must say I personally prefer the FC Cologne anthem over the Liverpool one," Podolski explained with a sly smile on his face. "But of course, it was a great experience."
Podolski, who has 101 caps, will have to fight for his place in Germany's team after Jogi Low explained no one is guaranteed a spot. Chelsea target Andre Schurrle and Borussia Dortmund players Marco Reus and Mario Gotze will challenges the Arsenal man for his left-wing role.
"I have been with the team since 2004 and have not missed a lot of matches. I am part of the team and have been for a long time. I am happy to be back with the Nationalmannschaft," he said.
The winger was absent for August's friendly with Argentina, as Low wanted to guarantee Arsenal players Mertesacker and Podolski did not miss the week leading up to the start of the Premier League.
"The season has just started, and I feel pretty good already. I am in a good shape but have yet to reach the point where you say I am totally fit. I will make use of the week with the Nationalmannschaft to push on with it," Podolski explained.
"We have to beat the Faroese. There is no way around it. Austria is a derby and we've had many difficult games against them in the past. That match will be demanding and we have to put up a fight and show our class."
Germany face Faroe Islands in Hannover on Friday, then travel to Austria next Tuesday.
