Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien has signed for Real Madrid on a season-long loan deal.
Essien, 29, had fallen down the pecking order at Chelsea after the arrival of several midfielders this summer and now reunites with former Blues boss Jose Mourinho at the Bernabeu.
The Ghana international had been a key part of the Blues' success during Mourinho's time at the club after signing from Lyon in 2005, making 247 appearances for the club. However, injuries had hindered his attempts to recover his form in the last couple of seasons.
A Blues statement read: "Chelsea Football Club today (Friday) announces that Michael Essien has joined Real Madrid on a season-long loan."
