The fee is thought to be £4 million, with Adam, 26, saying his Anfield farewells while watching Liverpool's Europa League clash with Hearts on Thursday night.
Stoke confirmed their interest in the former Blackpool star yesterday and have been able to force through a deal for a player who was not part of Brendan Rodgers' Merseyside revolution.
Tony Pulis has been missing training in order to try to land three or four more new signings before the transfer window shuts tonight.
But he appears to have missed out on two striker targets, Roque Santa Cruz and Nicklas Bendtner.
Santa Cruz seems destined for Malaga while Bendtner is also heading abroad, in his case to Juventus.
The phone lines between the Potteries and North London also remain hot, with Pulis also in continued negotiations with Tottenham over Tom Huddlestone and keeping a watching brief with centre-half Michael Dawson.
He has said he would like to sign Dawson, 28, if the necessary finance was in place but may have to sell first in order to do so. The situation is also clouded by Spurs' loss of Younes Kaboul through injury.
Wilson Palacios is one player Stoke are looking to move on and they are also considered to be open to bids for forwards Kenwyne Jones and Cameron Jerome.
