Tottenham draw with LA Galaxy

Tottenham and the Los Angeles Galaxy played out a 1-1 draw in their pre-season friendly on Tuesday evening.

Gareth Bale, who elected not to be available for Team GB at the upcoming London Olympics, opened the scoring for Spurs in the first half before the home side restored parity prior to the break. Bale converted a 17th minute cross from summer signing Gylfi Sigurdsson but David Lopes replied before the break to make sure the match ended 1-1.

David Beckham and Landon Donovan were absent from th Galaxy line-up after being selected to feature for the MLS All-Stars against Chelsea on Wednesday evening.

Stoke suffered a 2-1 defeat to Major League Soccer side Columbus Crew in Ohio.

The Premier League side went ahead after 23 minutes when Jonathan Walters headed in a Ryan Shotton cross at the near post.

But goals from Aaron Horton and Ben Speas wrapped up the win for the home side in the first game of three for Stoke in North America.

Aston Villa needed a penalty shootout to win their pre-season friendly against Portland Timbers after the game ended in a 2-2 draw.

Villa won the shootout 5-4 in Oregon after goals from Ciaran Clark and Matthew Lowton had twice given the visitors the lead against their Major League Soccer opponents.

But Sebastian Rincon and then Rodney Wallace drew the home side level before the game was decided by penalties.

Zoltan Gera made his return to action for West Brom as they beat Copenhagen 3-0 in a pre-season friendly in Denmark.

The Hungarian, who has been absent since rupturing knee ligaments against Tottenham in December, was a 71st-minute substitute at Parken Stadion.

The Baggies led 1-0 at that point thanks to Steven Reid's 15th-minute goal. And two late strikes gave the scoreline an emphatic look, with Shane Long winning and converting an 89th-minute penalty and Gabriel Tamas netting the third in stoppage time.
