Bellamy, 33, made a surprise return to Anfield last summer and was one of the few players to emerge with any credit from one of the most difficult seasons in the Reds' recent history.

The Welshman, who is currently on Olympic duty with the Great Britain football team in London, has previously flourished under current QPR boss Mark Hughes at both Blackburn and Manchester City, and it is thought he is keen to bring his compatriot to Loftus Road.

And Rs chief Bhatia confirmed that a potential move for Bellamy has been discussed at boardroom level.

Bhatia told Sky Sports News: "Craig is definitely a name that has been mentioned, a name we've discussed. There are a few options.

"We have been a fan of Craig Bellamy for the last few years, ever since he became available - that's not to say we have not been fans of other players.

"Many names have been tossed about, and who Mark settles on eventually will be his, and we'll do our best to support him.''

New Reds boss Brendan Rodgers has expressed his desire to keep the 33-year-old at Anfield but QPR could yet swoop for the Welshman, who has also been linked with a return to Cardiff.

Meanwhile, Bhatia refused to comment on rumours that the west Londoners are plotting a bid for Tottenham's Jermain Defoe.

"It would be hard to speculate at this point," Bhatia said. "It's not the right thing to do. Mark likes to have a long list of players! We'll see what happens. Many of the players we are after potentially have interest from other clubs also.''
