Ferrara, who leaves his position as Italy Under-21 manager, will return to club management for the first time since his one year at the helm of Juventus in 2009-10.

A Sampdoria statement read: "Ciro Ferrara will be the new coach of Sampdoria. The agreement with the new Partenopeo tactician will be ratified in the next few days.

"The club wishes to thank Giuseppe Iachini and his staff for their excellent and successful work done in recent months, culminating in promotion to Serie A.

"Sampdoria give their best wishes to Iachini and his staff and the best professional and personal fortune for the rest of their careers.''

Ferrara will sign a two-year contract with the Blucerchiati side and succeed Iachini, who guided the club to promotion via the play-offs.
