Sakai, 22, has signed a four-year deal at Hannover, which will keep him at the Bundesliga side until June 2016 and he becomes the side's second summer transfer to date, following midfielder Willi Evseev's arrival from Weiner Neustadt.

This year, Sakai won his first three caps for Japan and is expected to be named in the country's squad for the Olympic Games in London.

The full-back is a product of the Kashiwa youth academy and has gone on to make 61 appearances for the club. He joins Borussia Monchengladach's Yuki Otsu in swapping the club for the Bundesliga in the past twelve months.
